The U.S. Forest Service manages more than 668,000 acres of public owned land in Alabama. The Bankhead, Conecuh, Talladega and Tuskegee National Forests are "Great Escapes" for those who enjoy the outdoors. Many people are taking time out to enjoy outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, horseback riding, swimming, boating, camping, picnicking, bicycling, target shooting, plus more.

Use "Great Escapes", the official U.S. Forest Service app, to help plan your next outdoor adventure. If you are planning a day or overnight camping trip, select a national forest and discover what’s waiting for you.

The initial phase of "Great Escapes" mobile app provides essential information using a blend of website and native app capabilities. Users who download the app will have a GPS feature that gives them the closest national forest, a list of recreational activities and sites, wildfire alerts, road closures, safety tips, national forest news, fees, opening dates, directions (on website) and contact information. Share your "Great Escapes" pictures and experiences on Facebook and Twitter.

We want to meet your needs while visiting Alabama's national forests. It is your land and your app, so send us your comments as we implement new capabilities throughout the year. Mobile app comments should be emailed to pa_alabama@fs.fed.us.
