known as Oltrepò Mantovano, is a land rich in history and tradition and characterized by the presence of the long Po river, beacon and guideline for the local culture. Thanks to its geographical position, a crossroads between north and south and east and west, the area still bears great evidence of its glorius past: from the Etruscans to the Romans, from a fruitful Middle Ages with Benedictine monk and Matilde di Canossa to the Gonzaga family's duchy that left its mark on the whole territory, and from the wars of independence to the peasant fights.

The territory's agricultural vocation results in a type of prince and paupers cusine: typical deli meats, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, the famous pumkin tortelli, Agnoli (a kin of tortellini) with broth, risottos, truffles, stracotti (stews), and tagliatelle pie, are just a few of the typical dishes of the area.
And here is where the Strada del Tartufo Mantovano finds its heart: a place where the soil, the climate and the habitat create the ideal environment for the Tuber Magnatum Pico (the very precious white truffle). The Strada del Tartufo Mantovano Association was founded at the end of 2003 with the aim of stimulating the area's development through the promotion of tourism based on the distinctiveness of the area's typical products and gastronomic traditions and on the quality of services.
The truffle finds its apex in the Tru.Mu, the Truffle Museum of Borgofranco sul po, where the association.'s head quarters are located and where an itinerary dedicated to both adults and children will give visitors the chance to discover scientific data and trivia about this valuable mushroom.
