This app and the book, Inspirational Daily Prayer; Following in the Footsteps of Female Saints and Holy Women were born of my efforts to send a daily prayer to a friend who was being treated for breast cancer. I sought prayers and Bible portions that might uplift and strengthen her, and help her come closer to God.

This app was designed for individuals who are new to prayer, and for those who pray and want a resource to help them to go deeper. For those who have not yet developed the habit of daily prayer, I hope this app will entice you to do so. The scripture verses and prayers are short to make it easy for you to fit prayer into your life. The prayers are informative and provocative to give you food for thought and for your own prayers throughout the day. You will find footnotes attached to many of the prayers to make sources readily accessible to you.

Although the format of the app follows the calendar year, its themes are based on the liturgical year of the church, which begins with Advent, the four weeks of preparation leading up to Christmas; then Epiphany, the time after Christmas; then a few weeks of ordinary time followed by Lent, the time of preparation for Easter; then the season of Easter that ends with Pentecost, the feast of the Holy Spirit; finally, there are the long weeks of ordinary time at the end of the church year. The liturgical color for ordinary time is green. In the Catechesis, we call ordinary time growing time because that is the time when we use the gifts God has given us during the great feasts of Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost to grow in our relationship with God. Just as the church year is cyclical, so is this app, and you can begin it at any point in the year.
