NASAPP is a sophisticated, but easy to use tool, developed by the Technological Centre of Catalonia EURECAT – CTQC based in Tarragona, Spain. The NASAPP App has been developed in 2013 through a citizen science project, with the aim of providing a useful and productive communication channel for the citizen in their necessity to report odour pollution events in their communities.
The NASAPP users register odour episodes in their communities and all over around the world, through their mobile phones. Then, their odour complaint is transformed in a dynamic map of odour pollution with useful information for public administrations, chemical industries, ports and all kind of activities which could be considered a potential odour focus.
NASAPP provides form-based structured data collection obtained from individual citizen reports in real time. Each record includes the meteorological data corresponding to the area of study. Also, these records are the origin point for statistical studies, air dispersion modelling and backtracking models to the source.
