In a rich 3D environment, kindergarten children use Montessori blocks and wooden strips to practice addition and subtraction. Completing the hands-on mathematics activities in the 3D environment deepens children's conceptual understanding of addition and subtraction while at the same time improves their fluency and speed with the basic math facts.
Archimedes features:
√ Completing the activities in a 3D tree house with a rich back story engages children to learn mathematics in a fun and meaningful way.
√ Visual representations of addition and subtraction with Montessori manipulatives help children better understand mathematics.
√ Children are awarded stars, coins, and other fun activities after they complete each set of mathematics activities. This will motivate children to practice addition and subtraction.
√ Activities are grouped into small sets. Each set takes a few minutes to practice. Frequent practice improves understanding and memorization.
√ Audio instruction is provided to young learners who have not yet mastered reading.
√ Guidance and help are provided on the screen, so children can complete the activities with minimal adult support.
√ Children and parents can keep track of the number of times the activities have been completed.
√ The app allows multiple users to use the app.
BACKSTORY
Long ago, the Professor, a lover of math and science, discovered a secret grove with a massive tree living in its center. Recognizing an ideal place for learning about the real world, the Professor created a laboratory in the spacious hollows of the ancient tree, and gathered here a wonderful collection of artifacts from all the worlds of knowledge.
The Professor’s lifetime companion and friend, a wise, talking bird named Archimedes, gave the tree house its name, and helped to make it a comfortable retreat.
Over time, wandering children discovered the tree house, were welcomed, and became frequent visitors. Here, under the Professor’s guidance, they could learn, build, explore, and create, limited only by their imaginations.
