This walking tour provides insight into the colorful history of Decatur, Alabama. Old Decatur Historic District – one of the city’s two areas listed on the National Register of Historic Places – dates back to the town’s settlement in 1817 on the banks of the Tennessee River.

The district is home to the largest concentration in the State of Alabama of Victorian-era, Craftsman, and Bungalow homes which date from the late 1880's and the early 20th century. Several buildings survived the devastation of the Civil War.
