Museo di Palazzo Reale, Genoa
What is called the Palazzo Reale or royal palace today is actually a huge patrician residence built up and adorned with splendour over the years not only by the House of Savoy in the 19th century but also by two great Genoese dynasties, namely the Balbi family, who built it between 1643 and 1650, and the Durazzo, who enlarged it in the late 17th and early 18th century.
The building is perhaps the largest 17/18th-century architectural complex in Genoa to preserve its rooms of state intact and complete with their permanent and moveable decorations, from frescoes and stuccowork to paintings, sculptures, furnishings and objets d’art.

While the ceilings of the rooms and galleries are frescoed by some of the most important names in local Baroque and Rococo decoration, the over one hundred paintings on show in the rooms comprise works by the finest Genoese artists of the 17th century as well as masterpieces by Bassano, Tintoretto, Luca Giordano, Anton van Dyck, Ferdinand Voet and Guercino.

Collections: frescoes, furnishings, paintings, sculptures, stuccowork, description of work
Route : Exhibition room, Atrium, Teatro del Falcone, The Main Courtyard, Terrace Garden, The Ladies’ Apartment, Apartment of the Hereditary Princes
