The European Commission's Social Biking challenge aims to promote a healthier lifestyle by encouraging physical activity and a more environmentally sustainable means of transport, the bicycle! Anyone adult with a smartphone that has a GPS function is eligible to participate in the Social Biking challenge and become a Social Biker (S-biker).
General Instructions
BikePrints points: Each S-biker needs to activate the BikePrints app ('Start BikePrinting' button) whenever s/he starts cycling. The app records his/her movement and translates the tracked kilometres into points, such that 1km=1point. The chances of winning a prize are directly proportional to the distance covered. Therefore, the more points a S-biker collects, the higher are the chances to win a prize.
S-bikers can be part of a Social Biking "pair" and jointly earn "Pair Bonus" in addition to individual points in two different ways: Common Route Bonus: A S-biker doubles his/her own and his/her partner's points by cycling on his/her partner's BikePrints route within 48 hours after the partner cycled on that route. Cycling Together Bonus: A S-biker triples his/her own and his/her Social Biking partner's points for all the kilometres that they cycle together at the same time on the same BikePrints route. Rewards: At the end of each day during the pair stage, points are calculated and given (virtually) to each participant individually. A lottery draw at the end of stage determines the individual winners of the prizes.
