Über 200 Kunstwerke von Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Suzanne Valadon, Edgar Degas und anderen entführen die Besucher der SCHIRN in die Pariser Welt der Bohème um 1900. Historische Fotos sowie zahlreiche Plakate und Grafiken erhellen weitere Facetten eines der schillerndsten Kapitel der Kunstgeschichte, das wie kaum ein anderes mit Klischees behaftet ist. Ob es der Cancan der frivolen Tänzerinnen im Moulin Rouge ist, die üppige Kaffeehausszenerie oder der mittellose Künstler, der dem Alkohol frönt, bis mittags schläft und abends die Nacht zum Tag macht: Wer den Montmartre auf diese gewohnten Bilder reduziert, wird dem Realismus nicht gerecht, mit dem die Künstler den Alltag festgehalten haben. Die Ausstellung untersucht auch die soziologischen Zusammenhänge, die zu jener Zeit zusammenwirkten, und die veränderte Definition der Rolle des Künstlers.

AUDIOTOUR MIT AUGUST DIEHL
Die Audiotour, gesprochen von August Diehl, stellt Ihnen die Hauptwerke und wichtigsten Künstler der Ausstellung ESPRIT MONTMARTRE vor. Seine erste Filmarbeit, die Hauptrolle als Computerhacker Karl Koch im Kinofilm „23“ brachte August Diehl im Jahr 1998 Bekanntheit und den Deutschen Filmpreis als bester Darsteller ein. Mit Rollen in Quentin Tarantinos Oscar-nominiertem Film „Inglourious Basterds„ oder auch „Salt“ mit Angelina Jolie gelang ihm der internationale Durchbruch. Nach Hollywood zog es den Ausnahmeschauspieler nach Wien, wo er in der Rolle des Hamlet am Burgtheater brilliert.

Die SCHIRN KUNSTHALLE FRANKFURT ist eines der renommiertesten Ausstellungshäuser Deutschlands. Seit ihrer Gründung 1986 wurden mehr als 200 Ausstellungen realisiert, darunter große Übersichtsausstellungen zum Wiener Jugendstil, Expressionismus, Dada und Surrealismus, zu den „Impressionistinnen", zu Themen wie „Shopping – 100 Jahre Kunst und Konsum“, der visuellen Kunst der Stalinzeit, der neuen Romantik in der Kunst der Gegenwart sowie den Einflüssen der Theorien von Charles Darwin auf die Kunst des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts. Die SCHIRN KUNSTHALLE FRANKFURT präsentiert mit prägnanter Stimme brisante Themen sowie aktuelle Aspekte künstlerischer Œuvres aus einer zeitgenössischen Position heraus. Over 200 works of art by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Suzanne Valadon, Edgar Degas and others take visitors SCHIRN in the Parisian world of bohemian 1900s. Historic photos as well as numerous posters and graphics illuminate other facets of one of the most colorful chapters of art history, which is more than any other subject with clichés. Whether it is the cancan of frivolous dancers at the Moulin Rouge, the lush coffee house scene, or destitute artist who indulges in alcohol, sleeping until noon and in the evening the night does to the day: Who reduces the Montmartre on these familiar images, realism does not do justice with which the artists have captured the everyday life. The exhibition also examines the sociological contexts that worked together at that time, and the changing definition of the role of the artist.

The audio tour, spoken by August Diehl, introduces you to the major works and important artists of the exhibition ESPRIT MONTMARTRE. His first film work, the lead role as computer hacker Karl Koch in the movie "23" returned August Diehl in 1998, notoriety and the German Film Award for Best Actor in. With roles in Quentin Tarantino's Oscar-nominated film "Inglourious Basterds" or "Salt" with Angelina Jolie his international breakthrough. The Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt is one of the most renowned exhibition institutions. Since its founding in 1986, more than 200 exhibitions have been realized, including large surveys dedicated to the Vienna Art Nouveau, Expressionism, Dada and Surrealism, to the "impressionists", on topics like "Shopping - 100 Years of Art and Consumer Culture," the visual art of the Stalin era, the new romanticism in contemporary art as well as the influences of the theories of Charles Darwin on the 19th and 20th centuries. The SCHIRN presented with concise voice controversial issues and current aspects of artistic oeuvre from a contemporary position. The place of Discoveries offers the SCHIRN the visitor both: an original, sensual exhibition experience and active participation in the cultural debate.
