It all started with the Neandertal.

Some time later the district of Mettmann was formed around the valley.
For several years the area has been better known as the “neanderland”!

But best of all, there is now a long-distance hiking trail around the region, called the neanderland STEIG.
The 241-kilometre trail stretches from the hills of the Niederbergisches Land to the shores of the River Rhine (Rhein).

Wander through the romantic valley Düsseltal, past enchanted castles, over crests, and through moors, meadows and dense forests. Each kilometre of the neanderland STEIG offers a wealth of new surprises and natural experiences.

The neanderland STEIG is the greatest human development since we discovered how to walk upright.
