Metallica was first established in Los Angeles - United States under the name The Young of Metal Attack. A few months later the group changed its name to Metallica which is said to be a combination of Metal and Vodca. The name Metallica itself is actually a proposed name for a music magazine stolen by Lars Ulrich before the magazine gets its name.

Metallica's first lineup was Lars Ulrich (drums), James Hetfield (vocals and guitar), Lloyd Grant (guitar) and Ron Mc Govney (bass). This lineup later gave birth to the first song titled Hit The Light, which then entered the metal compilation album Metal Massacre in 1981.

After Metal Massacre circulated, Grant and Ron resigned. Grant's position was replaced by Dave Mustaine and Ron replaced Cliff Burton's position. This lineup later in July 1982 issued a demo album No Life Till Leather. It was this demo that later drove Metallica to get an agent and then move to New York.

In 1983, Metallica plans to make a short tour of several cities. Unfortunately Hetfield and Mustaine even involved a feud, until finally Mustaine out and then set up Megadeth. Mustaine's position was replaced by Kirk Hammett, guitarist of the Exodus group. The third formation is then issued album Kill 'Em All in May 1983.

In 1984, Metallica grew larger by publishing the album Ride the Lightning. This album lasted 50 weeks in the Billboard Top 200. In order to facilitate the promotion they also issued a mini album Jump In The Fire.

September 1985, Metallica produced the album Master Of Puppets. Metallica returns to Billboard Top 40 for 72 weeks. This album is an album that won platinum without singles and video.

On September 27, 1986, on a tour of Scandinavia - the bus they were traveling in had an accident and Cliff Burton (bass) died. This incident hit all the band members. Even Dave Mustaine who has founded Megadeth, recalled Cliff's death in the song In My Darkest Hour (Megadeth album: So far .. So Good .. So What!). In October 1986, Cliff Burton's position was replaced by Jason Newsted, the base of the Floatsam And Jetsam group.

The album ... And Justice For All was released in September 1988. This is where Metallica started issuing video clips. Their first video is for song One, this video reached number 1 on MTV. This success then prompted the production of Cliff 'Em All's video clips a memorable video for Cliff Burton.

The late 1990 album Metallica was recorded. This album made Metallica achieve quadruple platinum sales and became the number one album in eight countries of America and Europe. And won the Grammy Award, Best Metal Viewer category two years in a row.

Jason Newsted's base resigned from the band after arguing with James Hetfield. This feud caused Jason Newsted to spend more time with his own project. The other band members consider Metallica to be prioritized, even though by then Metallica is in vacuum.

The group currently consists of Lars Ulrich (drums), James Hetfield (vocals and guitar), Kirk Hammett (guitar) and Robert Trujillo (bass). Other former members include Ron McGovney (bass), Dave Mustaine (guitar), Cliff Burton (bass) and Jason Newsted (bass).

On August 10, 2008 Metallica has finally completed the recording of their new ninth studio album "Death Magnetic" which was launched on September 12, 2008 worldwide. The album was produced by "Rick Rubin" and the recording was performed at Sound City Studios, Shangri La Studios and in Metallica's own studio. Their first single and video clip "The Day That Never Comes" will be released later this month. In addition you can download all songs from the album for use in the game "Guitar Hero III" on the day of the launch of the album "Death Magnetic" is.
