Youth unemployment is a burning issue in Sri Lanka. The existence of a professional career guidance service in order to reduce unemployment and to create a productive and satisfactory working environment is an accepted process in today’s world.
As a matter of fact, by now, Carrier Guidance plays an important role in minimizing the issue of unemployment. When exploring a career, it is very important to match the interests and skills of the job seeker with a suitable career available in the labor market, especially to place a suitable person for a matching career. Providing guidance for entrepreneurs who create jobs is another sphere of career guidance.
Although nearly half a century has passed since the introduction of career guidance in Sri Lanka, there has been no collaborative mechanism to provide a proper career guidance service. The National Policy on Employment and Human Resource Development in Sri Lanka has emphasized the importance of establishing a nationally coordinated formal institution.
The expectation of the establishment of the Smart Sri Lanka Career Guidance Centre is to implement the most reliable and quality professional service to all those who need career guidance across the country.
As the first milestone in this journey, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena inaugurated Smart Sri Lanka Career Guidance Centre on February 8th, 2019 in Polonnaruwa.
