Open Secrets is a unique collection of music based on the sublime poetry of
Rumi and Hafiz. The selected poems are reinterpreted by Puran as he plays
original musical improvisations on the Sarod. These improvisations are based
on the ancient Indian wisdom of raga – where each mode (raga) has a specific
emotional and spiritual energy. The Sarod is a beautiful mellifluous Indian
musical instrument (a sister of the Sitar, you might say) whose haunting
resonant glissando adds a magical depth to the melodic passages.
The unifying theme of this work is the “open secrets” that so many spiritual
teachers freely share. These profound insights about how to achieve lasting
happiness and fulfillment become only too obvious when you actually see them
clearly. And perhaps no one has been as effective at pointing these out as the
great Sufi poets, Rumi and Hafiz.
Puran Lucas Perez, a murshid (senior leader) of the Sufi Way, is a musician,
author, videographer and digital artist. Deeply experienced in the path of
creativity and spiritual awakening, he has performed, taught and led programs
throughout Europe and North America for more than 30 years.
