******************** THE ORIGIN & HISTORY ********************

Lounge music is an “easy listening” form of music style that became a great hit in the period between the 1950s and the 1960s. Lounge music make the listeners elicit the perception of being in a certain virtual place—places like an island paradise, jungle, outer space, and someplace else.

The initial form of what is now known as lounge music came forth in the 1920s, and was then called “light music.” Space age pop, exotica, and other kinds of such easy listening music famous back in the 1960s and 1950 all comprised the Lounge music genre, although the term lounge” does not appear in documentations like long playing album covers nor the Billboard magazine. Lounge music incidentally denoted the kind of music often played in casinos, piano bars, and hotels (the bar, the lounge).

Compared to rock and roll which was conventionally inspired by country and blues, Lounge music developed from jazz and various musical aspects gleaned from cultures throughout the world. Combining music from outside of the USA, like several Latin genres (Mambo, Bossa Nova, Cha-Cha-Cha), with others like French and Polynesian music, Lounge music blossomed into a relaxed type of sound.
