For the first time, Swiss Federal Railways are launching free internet in their trains with SBB FreeSurf. Over 4.6 million Salt and Sunrise customers can access it. When customers get on the train, their smartphones are located via beacon. Customers open the previously installed SBB FreeSurf app and confirm that they want to use free Internet. After successful registration or activation, the customer will get a confirmation message that from now on they can browse the web for free using their network provider. On leaving the train or if the connection is switched off, the customer will receive a message saying that there is no longer access to the free Internet service. All the customer has to do is provide the mobile phone number on which they’d like to register for free Internet access.
