The cosine phi , or " power factor " is a characteristic of the load , ie the device connected to the source or AC network .

It is neither more nor less than the cosine of the angle at which the voltage and current are out of phase . While the coils ( Inductive load ) produce a delay of current relative voltage , capacitors ( capacitive loads ) produce an advancement of current relative tension , this will be discussed later.
